The God Actions

What do we think about when we hear the word “timing?” Let me be a little clearer with that question. What do we think about when we hear the word “timing” today? I am sure as I write things like, “the timing of this Corona-virus is terrible,” or “what bad timing for this pandemic, it is messing all my plans up,” or my favorite which was a meme that I saw, “I was just getting my life together and then the Corona-virus hit, what bad timing,” you may recall saying something like this. I have to admit that I may have uttered some similar types of things over the past couple weeks. I mean really, as a pastor I have a church to take care of, people to serve, and a community to serve; God has called me to do these and many other things. Even as I typed that previous line I started smiling. A smile that happens because God is still calling me to do those things and many different things. This virus is the result of us living in a fallen world, one into which sin entered through one man, Adam (Romans 5:12). Natural sin as seen in the world results in natural disasters, diseases, and sicknesses. I do not see that God’s Word ever speaks to His people having a world free of trouble. Rather, I think that Romans 8:28 points us to God’s sovereignty over everything. We know our final destination as believers, is with Him.

You may be asking at this point where I am heading with what I have written so far. That is actually the beauty of writing a blog. I can share with you my thoughts and how I work through these questions based on God’s Word. When I neglect to look at God’s Word for the answers, is where, like all of us, I could get somewhat “off” in my thinking. I am trusting God in all that is going on, and today as I read Genesis 1, I once again am reminded of God’s sovereignty over everything.

Genesis 1 contains what I call the “God actions.” As you read through Genesis 1, I would encourage you to highlight or write down all of the “God actions.” These are short phrases that start with, “God saw,” “God said,” “God made,” and “God called.” Of course, as you read through all these you will notice the statement, “God saw that it was good.” What a reassurance of all of God’s goodness that we find in Genesis 1. I know that as you read this first chapter of Genesis you will find so many more words, phrases, and actions of God that will jump off the pages for you. Here is my challenge question for you; if you do not know all the attributes of God, and all that He is capable of, will you be able to trust Him to get us through this Corona-virus, and all the other things that may come up in our lives? I pray that each and every time you turn to God’s Word, that He reveals more of Himself to you. God bless each one of you.
